Radio stations attracted 1,900 sponsors for impoverished children. Christian stations in Grand Rapids MI, Tulsa OK, Atlanta GA,
Wichita KN, Amarillo TX and Lubbock TX, each held a 36-hour marathon to raise awareness of Compassion’s child development efforts and find
individual sponsors for children in need, according to PRNewswire.
Wes Stafford, president and chief executive officer of Compassion, phoned in
to talk, and listeners were directed to log on to a Web site for a live broadcast from each of the six stations. Each sponsored child will be given
help with education, health, skills development, and spiritual growth, said Renee Pollmann of Compassion International.
The nonprofit ministry
helps more than 360,000 children in 22 countries, including the United States. “To have the joy of knowing that hundreds of children will be
presented with the gospel of Jesus Christ and helped with their education and nutrition is the highest privilege one can imagine,” said Les Lanser
of WJQK in Grand Rapids.
