President Trump’s Executive Order & Advisory 1776 Commission
One of the most interesting things to come out of the Trump Administration in recent days is the President’s Advisory 1776 Commission. This Executive Order of President Trump will work to improve understanding of the history and the principles of the founding of the United States for our country’s future generations.
President Trump’s 1776 Commission is tasked with producing a report within a year regarding the core principles of America’s founding and how these principles may be understood to continue reaping the benefits of liberty and promote our continuing efforts to form a more perfect Union. The Commission will impact students by creating the “Presidential 1776 Award” to recognize student knowledge of Americas founding in support of the Federal Government’s plans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
The President is also taking steps to require America’s educational institutions that receive Federal funds to observe and celebrate Constitution Day.
In light of the downfall of public education and the abysmal lack of knowledge children and college students are receiving about important historical dates, occurrences and people, a move to reintroduce some of our country’s proud heritage back into the classrooms is a welcome step in the right direction. The move to replace American history with PC culture has played right into the decades-old Communist agenda for America:
- 17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
- 18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
- 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
As the fact sheet for President Trump’s Advisory 1776 Commission states:
Unfortunately, some versions of American history offer a misconstrued and one-sided account of our founding in an effort to paint America as a systemically racist country.
In fact, fewer than one in six eighth graders have proficient knowledge of United States history according to the Nation’s Report CardFact sheet on President Trump’s Advisory 1776 Commission
It is not surprising that President Trump holds traditional values and is committed to bringing about a return to our historical roots. Donald Trump grew up in a Christian home and went to Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens, where he was confirmed in 1959. In the 1970s, his parents joined the Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan, part of The Reformed Church in America (RCA). The pastor at Marble, Norman Vincent Peale, (author of the best-selling book The Power of Positive Thinking), ministered to Trump’s family until Peale’s death in 1993. Trump has referred to Peale as a mentor. In October 2020, Trump said that he now identifies as a non-denominational Christian.
So it is little wonder that President Trump has taken a strong stand against the ongoing recent attempts to distort America’s history and has taken steps to promote education that teaches our nation’s history.
