Plus One Joins Natalie Grant on Single

Two of Christian music’s most prolific artists — Plus ONE and Natalie Grant — have teamed
up to release one of fall 2001’s hottest radio singles, “Whenever You Need Somebody,” from Grant’s recently
released project Stronger.
Slated for a Friday, Aug. 31 national add date, “Whenever You Need Somebody” partners gold-selling Atlantic
Records group Plus ONE with Pamplin Records artist Natalie Grant. The duet follows up Grant’s debut Pamplin
single, “Keep On Shining,” one of the summer’s hottest songs, which held in the Top 5 of The CCM Update AC
radio airplay chart for seven weeks with three consecutive weeks at No. 2.
“Whenever You Need Somebody” is already making strong impressions among radio professionals. “This is
going to be a big, big song!” said Sean Herriot, PD at WMUZ/Detroit. “Natalie Grant will be headlining our Annual
Listener Appreciation concert this year, and the range and expression you can hear in ‘Whenever You Need
Somebody’ should give you an idea as to why we’re so excited that she will be part of our event.”
Grant co-wrote “Whenever You Need Somebody,” along with her husband/co-producer Bernie Herms, Kevin
Stokes and Jimmy Collins, to encourage a close friend who was dealing with the harsh reality of three
miscarriages in eight years of marriage.
“Though I couldn’t understand her pain, I knew I could pray for her,” Grant says. “Some girlfriends and I gathered
once a week with her — praying for her, wiping her tears and encouraging her in the Lord. During that time, I wrote
‘Whenever You Need Somebody’ and gave it to her as a gift. I hope this song is a reminder that when one of us is
weak, we can stand by his side and uphold him in prayer.”
“Whenever You Need Somebody,” the third cut on Grant’s new Pamplin release, Stronger, was recorded in Los
Angeles and was co-produced by Bernie Herms and Phil Silas, (Plus ONE’s #1 hit single “The Promise”), who
co-produced “God Is In This Place” with Grammy award-winning producer David Foster.
The opportunity to perform this duet holds special meaning for Plus ONE member Jason Perry. Before either
artist was signed, Perry met Grant at a regional talent competition a number of years ago. ”Her voice blew me
away! After I heard her sing I walked up to her and said ‘one day I’ll be singing with you.’ I was so thrilled when the
opportunity came up for us (Plus ONE) to actually sing this song on Natalie’s project with her,” Perry recalls.
“When I played this song for the (Plus ONE) guys, they flipped out and really wanted to record it with Natalie for her
new record,” stated Mitch Solarek, Mitchell Artist Management, who also added that the two artists have
tremendous respect for each other’s music.”
