Plus ONE Debuts at Number One

Atlantic Records artist Plus ONE debuted at the number
one slot on Christian Albums SoundScan chart this week with the release of
their sophomore project Obvious. Hitting stores nationwide Feb. 26, 2002,
Obvious rocketed to the top of the chart selling more than 41,000 units its
first week out while debuting at #29 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.
Experiencing a blockbuster first year, with its debut project The Promise
certifying RIAA gold in less than ten months, Obvious builds on a legacy
that was started just two years ago, and extends beyond it. Obvious
highlights a roster of top-notch producers, including Guy Roche, Matthew
Gerrard, Peter Zizzo, Klaus/Jeeve & Miklos Malek, Tedd T., Bernie Herms and
Peter Kipley. In addition to the stellar list of producers, Plus ONE
members themselves built on their musical development with Gabe Combs
producing a track (“Start To Fly”) and Nate Cole producing vocals (“Calling
Down An Angel”). Obvious reveals a new Plus ONE with 10 out of the 12
tracks featuring co-writing from at least one or more Plus ONE members.
In addition to the massive sales of their sophomore project, Plus ONE is
also making waves in radio. Their debut singles are currently climbing the
radio charts. “Camouflage” is currently at top 5 on CHR charts while
“Forever” holds its spot on the top 10 AC chart.
Coinciding with the release of Obvious, Plus ONE recently embarked on their
spring headlining tour that will hit 55-60 markets. Playing primarily in
civic centers, theaters and arenas, the groundbreaking tour launched two
days after the street date of the group’s sophomore project.
Since their debut, Plus ONE has experienced unprecedented success. The group
has had numerous television opportunities, including guest appearances on
Days Of Our Lives, ABC’s Christmas Special “Twas the Night Before
Christmas,” a featured artist on TNN’s annual television special “Class of
2000,” Touched By An Angel, Live with Regis and Kelly, Entertainment
Tonight, Nickelodeon’s Slime Time Live, CBS Network News Special and Music
Choice’s ON STAGE Concert Series, among others. In addition to national
television appearances, Plus ONE has also graced the covers of a number of
high profile publications, such as Release, CCM, Campus Life, Brio, GMA
Today, among others, including mainstream success coverage in Teen People
and The Wall Street Journal. Plus ONE also helped usher in the 2001 school
year as the featured artist on five million packages of the famous Armour
“Lunchmakers” snack packs. Promoted nationwide by the Radio Disney Network,
Plus ONE participated in the Con-Agra/Lunchmakers on-pack sweepstakes which
took place August 15-November 15.
In addition, Plus ONE continues to maintain a strong momentum as the
Christian Music Industry’s top-selling act of 2000 (Christian Booksellers
Association). The group still holds the record for the most units scanned
by any debut CCM artist.
The Nashville based vocal quintet is made up of Nathan Walters, Nate Cole,
Jeremy Mhire, Jason Perry, and Gabe Combs.
