Recording artist Phil Joel recently announced plans for his first solo tour without his
band mates the Newsboys. The “Strangely Normal” tour kicks off with a special concert at CBA Expo in Louisville, KY on
January 31st in support of Joel’s successful solo debut, “Watching Over You.”
Sponsored by World Vision and Acaza.com, the tour is targeting 20 ?A1 markets including Houston, Dallas, Chicago,
Minneapolis and Los Angeles. The “Strangely Normal” tour will also feature a diverse line-up, including Sparrow recording
artist1s Earthsuit and Luna Halo, Reunion1s LaRue, and 40 Records1 Sammy Ward.
“I am so excited to get out there and play in front of people with my band,” commented Joel. “I haven’t done this since I
was in New Zealand when I was with the band Drinkwater, so it1s going to be great! The production is going to be quite
extensive, with video screens, moving lights, you name it. I love being a part of Newsboys, and it1s also great to be able to
get out there and play my music, and minister to kids with songs and messages that I feel passionate about.”
“We have had the privilege of working with Phil for many years as a Newsboy
and look forward to his solo tour,” stated Houston Promoter KSBJ’s Jeff Scott. “Phil came to our market for an in-store
with Mars Music, the Musicians Planet and had a huge turn out. The line up that has been put together for this tour is great,
and we except a large turn out!”
“Watching Over You,” which has sold over 70,000 units in less than 5 months, garnered a # 2 CHR smash and a top 10
AC hit with the single “God Is Watching Over You.” Currently, Joel’s second single to CHR, “Strangely Normal,” is
climbing the charts, as is his new AC single, “Author of Life.”
In addition, Joel was recently the special guest for Focus On The Family1s “Life on the Edge” radio program1s Christmas
special, which airs on nearly 150 radio stations nationwide. Currently, Joel’s second single to CHR, “Strangely Normal,”
is climbing the charts, as is his new AC single, “Author of Life.”
“I think there will be many people excited to know Phil is doing his own tour,” said inpop co-owner Wes Campbell. “Phil is
as committed to his solo career as inpop is to him, and to supporting his tour. While Newsboys aren’t touring, Phil has a
great opportunity to hit top markets, showcase his talent, minister to kids one-on-one, and support a great record.”
Phil’s biggest success this year, however, came with the birth of he and wife Heather1s new baby daughter, Phynley
(Phyn) Elizabeth Joel on October 15th. Joel plans to make the tour a family affair, with Heather and Phyn joining him on
the road.
“A pre-requisite to be on this tour is that you have to be willing to help change diapers,” said Joel, “and those 3am feedings
will probably suit road-life a little better!”
