Once Upon a Tree

Acclaimed author and Beeson Divinity School professor of
preaching and pastoral studies, Dr. Calvin Miller, releases Once Upon a Tree through Howard Publishing today.
An accomplished author of more than 40 books, including the popular Singer Trilogy and, more recently, Jesus
Loves Me and Into the Depths of God to name a few, and countless published articles to his credit, Miller brings
his trademark, awe-inspiring artistry to the craft of writing again in Once Upon a Tree. Originally published in
June 1978, the work’s initial study of Christ’s crucifixion has been significantly renewed with Miller’s contemporary
and relevant observations.
In this book, he examines the ten “fearsome doctrines of our lives” through the most pivotal point of eternity,
Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Miller explains that the Cross of Christ is the testing ground for all that Jesus
taught, for all that He proclaimed on the issues of human meaning, salvation, grief, the need for community,
betrayal, accountability, death and dying, self-sacrifice, pain and transcendence.
Dr. Calvin Miller, currently teaching at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, received his doctor of ministry
degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served on the editorial boards of such highly
esteemed publications as Leadership Magazine and Preaching Magazine; and his widespread reputation as a
theologist, poet and author has made him a highly sought-after speaker across the world.
