Oakland Park Mayor Layne Dallet Walls is slated to be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Hispanic Fair, hosted by the International Christian Center (ICC) in Oakland Park. The day-long event, sponsored in part by the American Bible Society, Higher Hopes Community Development Corporation and Emilio Reyes Ministries, will feature live Hispanic music, dancing and food as well as children’s events, including face painting and donkey rides. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, October 9 and will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will take place on the ICC Campus (2414 Oakland Park Blvd.) and is free and open to the public.
“The Hispanic community in Broward County has grown and we believe that we need to join in the national celebration of the Hispanic culture which takes place from September 15 through October 15,” says ICC Pastor and former American Bible Society vice president Emilio A. Reyes. “We want the community to come out and experience the Hispanic culture.”
The Hispanic Fair, which celebrates Broward County’s Hispanic/Latino heritage, will feature Christian music recording artist Freddie Colloca who will be a headline performer during the event. Also featured during the fair will be folkloric dancing by the For Real Productions Ensemble as well as casino-style salsa dancing by Beatriz Duarte. The fair is one of many programs that ICC has been using to reach out to the Oakland Park community.
