Nicole C. Mullen Is Ready to Talk About It

Word Records vocalist and songwriter Nicole C. Mullen, recently named the Gospel Music Association’s “Songwriter of the Year,” will release her anticipated sophomore project, Talk About It, to stores August
28.
Building on the unprecedented quality of her self-titled debut release, which included the Dove Award winning Song of the Year,
“Redeemer,” Mullen returns on Talk About It to deliver an energetic blend of her trademark worshipful balladry and
urban-influenced pop. With returning producers David Mullen and Justin Niebank, together with Nicole C. Mullen, Talk About
It features 11 tracks written or co-written by Mullen, each demonstrating her lyrical depth and vocal artistry. Thematically,
Mullen’s new set of songs demonstrates God at work in the everyday lives of His people.
“This album is a whole group of stories about life, and about people. It is a celebration of a big God who works through everyday
heroes,” Mullen said. “I see the contrast between the ordinary and God doing something extraordinary — the mundane butting up
next to the glory — everyday. I am not anything special, but I get confidence when I call on Jesus.”
In the tradition of “Redeemer,” which Jon Rivers of Dallas radio station KLTY said he knew “would be one of the biggest songs
of the year the moment I heard it,” Nicole offers three powerful new pop ballads on Talk About It which carry out the theme of
the album. The well-crafted pop stylings and vertical sentiments of “Call On Jesus,” “Come Unto Me” and “When Heaven Calls”
provide great promise of following in “Redeemer’s” footsteps to become church and radio standards themselves. Meanwhile,
Mullen reveals her love of high-energy hip-hop and urban sounds on tracks like “Witness,” “Say So” and “The Ring.”
“From the moment we met Nicole C. Mullen, we knew she was an artist with a brilliant future in both
ministry and music,” said Elisa Elder, vice president and general manager of Word Records. “Her musical
communication is energetic, artful, clear, and well-crafted, as is her ministry to young people. We are seeing lives changed wherever Nicole goes. What a bright light! We look forward to releasing Talk About It in August, as it is a stellar follow-up to her debut project.”
Talk About It follows a highly successful year for Mullen. While working on her new project, she recently garnered four of the
Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards at the 32nd Annual Dove Awards ceremony, making her second in the industry for
total Dove Award wins this year. Mullen’s accolades included both Song of the Year and Pop Contemporary Recorded Song of
the Year for her self-penned smash hit single, “Redeemer,” and the coveted award for Songwriter of the Year, making Mullen the
first female to wear the title in over a decade.
Since its release in April of last year, Mullen’s self-titled Word Records debut has now shipped over a quarter million copies,
while the chart-topping radio single “Redeemer” became CCM’s #1 AC and Inspirational Song of the Year for 2000. Mullen
has also graced the pages of a number of high-profile magazines including Billboard, Ebony, CCM Magazine, Today’s Christian
Woman, Release Magazine, and Campus Life, among others.
Nicole C. Mullen has been a songwriter for years, co-writing the 1998 GMA Song of the Year, “On My Knees,” performed by
GRAMMY nominated label mate Jaci Velasquez. Mullen honed her performing skills singing backup vocals and choreographing
for such acts as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and the Newsboys, while children around the world recognize her as the vocalist
on the “The Veggie Tales Theme Song” from the acclaimed, best-selling kids video series. In addition to touring with Michael W.
Smith over the last year, Mullen has appeared at DC/LA 2000, “The 700 Club” Live Concert Series, and the Crystal Cathedral’s
“Hour Of Power.”
Coinciding with the release of Talk About It, Mullen will headline the “Talk About It” national tour this coming fall.
