Newsboys today launched the first single from its forthcoming untitled CD. The song, I am Free, is flying up the US radio charts after becoming a crowd favorite closing newsboys concerts in Scotland, Morocco, and in America.
Lead singer Peter Furler says some of the radio people at the record company advised the band not to release a live song as a radio single.
?”That’?s understandable because they were going by the past, but we don’t always look at the past,”? Furler says.
?”The past can teach you, but it can’t always show you what you should do. So we went for it, and it’s paying off. We’re excited about it,?” Peter says.
I Am Free has become one of the most added songs on US Christian radio during the past week. Radio and Records (3 February) lists the song at #17 on CHR and #23 on AC formats.
Newsboys will perform the song at AGMF 06 in April, and in Melbourne, which will be the band?s only concert outside the festival.
