How many of you are planning on or have already decided to make a New Year's Resolution? Have you ever kept one or know of someone who has? New beginnings are a wonderful thing and with a new year comes a new starting point. It is a way to erase or forget the past and move on. Many use January first to mark the start of that change for their resolution of self improvement.
These resolutions are good and it is a great way for implementing things that you keep putting off. Most of these self-imposed goals take a lot of stamina, determination and discipline but they are usually worth it.
If you stop and look at the concept, there is a parallel to the truth of Christ. He has given us a new beginning through the Cross, His Death and Resurrection! We truly can leave the past behind and enter into a brand new beginning! Through confessing our sin and believing in Him, we pass a threshold into a changed life and heart along with a clean slate! Mind boggling! To top it off, Christ will be there to walk alongside us! He provides His strength, we don't need to rely on our own stamina, determination and discipline! That kind of minimizes the appeal of any worldly resolution!
When you make your New Year's Resolutions this year, ask God to reveal an aspect of your relationship with Christ that needs some work. Then ask the Holy Spirit to help you in the New Year as you implement ways to strengthen your walk. For me it is always one of the three; my prayer life, quiet time or Bible study time that needs some help (usually all three)! Oh I can't forget to ask for strength controlling my tongue, attitude and temper. Whatever the case, we all need some adjusting, just don't forget to add God to the mix and put Him first in the New Year! He wants to bless, prosper and strengthen you.... so give Him the opportunity.... ask Him and then follow His lead! New Year's Resolutions are great for believers because we don't have to attempt them alone! Ring in the New Year with the Joy of your salvation and be encouraged and strengthened by these verses!
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call
upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me
and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
II Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, " My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my
weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for
Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in
persecutions, I difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is everlasting. God, the
creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his
understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and
increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and
young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their
strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not faint
If God is for us who can be against us?
Happy New Year!more.
