New Radio Outlets for Christian Music!

The first months of 2001 saw increased growth for Salem Music Network in
its continuing efforts to create exposure for the Christian music industry
through the development of new radio broadcast outlets.
Thus far this year, 12 stations have added Christian music programming from
one or more of the three full-time music formats produced by Salem Music
Network.
Among the stations recently adding the network’s “Word in Praise” format
(in select dayparts) are:
KLNG/Omaha, Nebraska
WBXR/Fayetteville, Tennessee
KCNW/Kansas City, Missouri
KCFY/Yuma, Arizona
WDER/Derry, New Hampshire
WARV/Providence, Rhode Island
WBCI/Portland-Topsham, Maine
The former three are operated by Wilkins Communications, bringing to seven
the number of Wilkins-owned stations carrying the format. The latter three
are operated by Providence-based Blount Communications.
Salem Music Network general manager Michael Miller says, “By delivering the
most popular praise and worship songs heard in American churches today, The
Word in Praise Network continues to offer a perfect programming complement
for the nation’s Christian talk/teaching stations. Given that praise and
worship music had little radio airplay prior to this network, and given
that the genre continues to be the second highest selling Christian music
format, we believe that broadcasters’ potential with this network is
unlimited.”
Other new outlets for Salem Music Network programming include
WCGW/Lexington, Kentucky; WKFL/Bushnell, Florida; WCVZ/Columbus, Ohio;
KHGN/Kirksville, Missouri; and WKFI/Wilmington, Ohio, all embracing the
southern gospel-based Solid Gospel Network, and WCRS/Greenwood, South
Carolina which adds the contemporary focused Today’s Christian Music network.
The Nashville-based Salem Music Network, Inc. delivers both Christian music
and industry product promotions to two million listeners weekly via some
230 radio network affiliates carrying either the network’s Today’s
Christian Music, The Word in Praise, or Solid Gospel networks. Salem Music
Network also operates Nashville area radio stations WBOZ-FM and WVRY-FM,
and all of its programming can be heard via the popular internet sites
TodaysChristianMusic.com and SolidGospel.com. Salem Music Network is a
subsidiary of Salem Communications Corporation, headquartered in Camarillo,
California. (Nasdaq: SALM).
