Valentines Day News: Proving they are truly Nashville’s sweethearts, Mayor Purcell officially declared Feb. 20, 2002 Point of Grace Day in Nashville in honor of their unprecedented 24 consecutive #1 singles. POG topped Alabama for the record with their 22nd hit, “Blue Skies” according to Billboard. Their historic accomplishment remains unmatched by any artist in any genre of music. Word Records and TBA Entertainment will the commemorate the unprecedented career of Point of Grace on Feb. 20th at the Frist Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Recognized as one of today’s premiere music groups, every single Point of Grace has released has gone to #1, including six #1’s from their debut project alone, a feat still unmatched by any artist in any genre of music. This quartet’s history also includes their first RIAA certified platinum album, life, love & other mysteries, four gold records, high-profile national television appearances, two devotional and autobiographical books published by Pocket Books (a division of Simon & Schuster), consistent Billboard charting action, Grammy nominations, numerous Dove awards and a host of nationally headlined tours.
Point of Grace’s impact is substantial beyond the group’s music. Currently the women of Point of Grace, Heather Payne, Terry Jones, Shelley Breen and Denise Jones are preparing to invest their own experiences, life lessons, and faith in the lives of young fans through the Girls of Grace conferences starting in October of 2002. The two-day events for teenage girls will include praise and worship, keynote speakers, teaching sessions with the members of Point of Grace, a fashion and make up segment, and a special girls-only concert by Point of Grace with a special guest artist.
“Celebrating Point of Grace Day allows us to express our appreciation to them not only for giving us over ten years of musical excellence and inexhaustible effort, but for giving us music with the message of hope and encouragement,” stated Elisa Elder, senior vice president and general manager of Word Records. “What they do touches so many lives and we are thrilled to support them.”
“Great songs. That’s why Point of Grace has stood the test of time. Over 10 years and 24 number 1 songs, pretty amazing when you think about it,” recounts David Piece, K-LOVE programmer. “With songs that speak to our hearts and encourage us to hold on to God’s grace, Point of Grace has become part of our lives. Of course with 24 number one songs I think it’s safe to say a lot of people are listening and eagerly awaiting number 25.”
Word Records, a division of Word Entertainment, is a property of Warner Music Group/AOL Time Warner, and heralds over fifty years of music-making history. Word is headquartered in Nashville, TN.
