America's Got Talent was filming and auditioning hopefuls at Nashville's Doubletree Hotel at 3;30 this afternoon. Secrecy and security were tight, and friends and family were not allowed to bring cameras or camera phones in to snap a photo of the tryouts. The winner of the show receives a $1 million prize. Christian sword swallower Dan Meyer was one of the hopefuls on hand to showcase his talent. More Dan Meyer below!
1/28/8Orlando-based rock band Fireflight recently shot a high-intensity music video featuring car crashes, tragic characters and the bands commanding live performance of its current radio smash Unbreakable. Shot inside a commercial steel warehouse by Ruckus Film in east Nashville, the Unbreakable video is the first in town to use the RED ONE camera technology. Having four times the resolution of a High Definition camera, RED ONE is being called Ultra High Definition.
1/27/8 Dan Meyer sent us this update today: "I did perform backstage for the clowns in Clown Alley today. It was a huge honor, a benchmark point in my life, and really a hoot to see all the clowns rushing to grab THEIR cameras and shoot ME! I had a couple of the clowns pull the swords out of my throat, and some of the Brazilian clowns seemed so impressed and affected by it, that a couple of them took one of my fake telescoping swords, and were trying to figure out a way to work it into an act."

1/26/08 Eating dinner with Christian sword-swallower Dan Meyer is a surreal experience. For instance, when Dan says he's waiting for some clown to call him, he means a real Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus clown! If you have ever wondered who entertains the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus entertainers while they are in town, that's the kind of thing Dan Meyer sometimes finds himself doing when he's not feeding his horses or operating a Christian coffeehouse in Alabama with his wife. Although Dan and I have been in the same Celtic Christian Music Group for some time, I first met Dan in person in May of 2007 when he swallowed his swords at the
Tennessee Renaissance Festival. Last year Dan was also featured on NPT's "Tennessee Crossroads," won the Ig Nobel Award in Medicine and was featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not swallowing swords underwater in a tank of sharks, and 2008 promises to be just as full of "cutting edge" entertainment. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in Nashville, at the Sommet Center, January 24th through the 27th. Tickets start out at only $13. The Tennessee Renaissance Festival returns to Triune-Arrington in May.
1/25/8 As a member of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation-but most significantly as grandfather to a new baby girl - Michael W. Smith, Grammy and Dove Award-winning artist recently presented the President's award to volunteer Roberta Simpson. Simpson, a nana of nine and children's book author, used her acceptance remarks to hand Smith his own copy of "Nana's Bible Stories" as she sounded the call for grandparents to voluntarily read to their smallest grandchildren.
