My Beloved, a Poem

My Beloved, a poem by Edith K Ochien’g

When the storms of life

Steer me to shipwreck

I hear God say to me;

‘My beloved, I shield you all day

You dwell between my shoulders’

When the bills pile up

And I can’t pay up

I hear God say to me;

‘My beloved, I’m your Shepherd

You shall not want’

When voices overwhelm me

And I don’t know who to trust

I hear God say to me;

‘My beloved, I am the way

The truth and the life’

When His hand is on me

And I question why

I hear God say to me;

‘My beloved, I chasten you

Because you’re my child’

When future anxieties

Unsettle my present

I hear God say to me;

‘My beloved, I have plans for you

For welfare, not calamity.’
