Moya Brennan, who has long been heralded as one of music’s most prolific singers and musicians, continues to stand at the top of her profession as a solo artist, with the release of An Irish Christmas, September 26, 2006. The project will make its U.S. debut through EMICMG/Sparrow Records.
Brennan, who is known as the lead singer of Clannad, the family band in which she and sister, Enya both began their solo careers, has sold 15 million units sold worldwide and has won and been nominated for multiple Grammy and GMA Music Awards.
The influence of Moya’s music as a successful singer on the global music world is unprecedented, having recorded with such music greats throughout her career as Bono, Michael McDonald, Michael Crawford, The Chieftains, Bruce Hornsby, Paul Young, Graham Kendrick and most recently Delirious, on their 2005 project The Mission Bell.
Having recorded the infamous “Theme From Harry’s Game” as well as a stirring track for the multi-million selling Sony/Columbia Back To Titanic soundtrack, Moya’s fingerprints can be found over the Celtic and international music scene worldwide and she has lead the charge in taking the local histories out to an international audience.
Although following in the footsteps of her brilliant recording success with An Irish Christmas, the project charts a conceptually different course. The record breathtakingly takes the listener through the Christmas story with a blend of familiar favorites and a unique Irish twist.
From “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” to “Joy To The World” to “Love Came Down at Christmas,” Moya reworks the classics with an intimacy that restores the personal and the passionate to these Christmas classics and new offerings. In her hands, with layered production that adds inches of fresh, crisp depth and those trademark vocals bringing light to the darkest of nights, tracks like “Carol Of The Bells,” “What Child is This” and “Do You Hear” bring an inspiring fresh breath to the standard renditions. The listener is placed in the front row of the ultimate nativity opera.
According to Moya, the idea for the album first came to her some time ago: “I’ve been involved in number of other people’s Christmas projects in recent years,” explains Moya, “but I wanted to capture a truly Celtic Christmas feeling. It’s always important to bring the meaning of Christmas to the fore. It is the essence of what I believe in and the album offers both celebration and reflection on that familiar theme.”
With an extensive campaign planned in the build up to the holidays, An Irish Christmas is set to become one of the most important albums of the season. Visit www.moyabrennan.com for more information.
