Men and Women Are Different and This Cannot Be Changed

Men & Women Are Different

Tonight a young man waited on me in the photo department of my local Walgreens. He was trying hard to look like a girl, but when he greeted me, he had a deep, masculine voice. That wasn’t his only giveaway. Underneath the makeup, painted nails, long hair and somewhat feminine clothes, he also had a more pronounced brow, larger cranium, broader shoulders, longer arms, narrower hips, and bigger hands and feet than a woman. I took that all in in one glance. I didn’t want to stare to see if he also had an Adam’s apple, but he was clearly a man.

Oddly enough, when he returned to give me my photos, he spoke in a higher, softer voice, like he had suddenly remembered that real women have higher, softer voices. It did not make him magically a woman, however.

Appropriating Womanhood

As a woman. I am offended every time a man tries to appropriate my womanhood by wearing makeup, growing his hair out, painting his nails and wearing clothes he thinks a real woman would wear. Men only make it worse by injecting female hormones to force their bodies to unnaturally produce female traits in their still masculine bodies. This isn’t natural, it isn’t normal, and it makes a mockery of womanhood.

Our culture frowns upon appropriation because it is a sign of mockery as well as taking what doesn’t belong to us. We don’t like caucasians to wear black face. We don’t like white people to wear makeup and dress up as native Americans, Asians or other races. Why is it considered ok in our culture for a man to dress up as a woman and to modify himself to appear more like one?

Defying Biology

On top of that, it defies biology. God made our bodies different on purpose. He purposely created two sexes—male and female. He didn’t create a bunch of subsets. He also did not create people “in the wrong body.” He specifically created clear biological standards that made men and women suited for their different roles.

These difference are apparent in our bone structure, our musculature, in the structural difference of men’s skulls vs. female skulls, even down to differences between the teeth of men and women.

The difference between men and women is coded on the cellular level and into the DNA of every unique male or female. It cannot be changed.

Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7

So God created a man and then He created a distinctly different being— a woman.

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

20 But for Adam no suitable helper was found.21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.

Overturning Roles

God created Adam with a clear purpose and Eve with a clear purpose. He created biological differences that would suit two different sexes with two different roles.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
    for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, God defined the male and female roles with more details. Here He describes the woman’s role.

16 To the woman he said,

“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
    with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
    and he will rule over you.”

Clearly, a woman’s role is partly defined by her biology and anatomy— anatomy with the purpose of conceiving, carrying and giving birth to babies. Women with anatomical parts that don’t function properly are no less women because they have a medical issue or because their supply of eggs has dried up. They are still women, coded down to their cellular level as women. They cannot become men.

And to the man, God said this:

19 By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”

Men are created larger and stronger than women so that they are capable of working in the fields or with the animals or other resources. They are typically taller than women, with broader shoulders, more muscle mass, larger craniums with distinctive features, longer arms and legs, larger hands and feet and narrower hips that were never meant to bear children.

So men were created to look different and to have a different purpose than women. They cannot become women.

Trying to Look Like the Opposite Sex

Because of the many biological and anatomical difference between men and women, the only “transgender” men I have seen that come close to looking like women have had numerous surgeries to trim down some parts and plump up others. They look more like fake Kardashians than real women.

Should a man even try to look like a woman? According to the Bible, no.

A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.

Deuteronomy 22:5 NIV

According to the Bible, God hates anyone who tries to look like the opposite sex by dressing like them. Natural-born women (AFAB) should look like women. Natural-born men (AMAB) should look like men. Men in kilts look manly and women still look like women in pants. It takes an effort to try to look like the opposite sex. I believe this is the line God hates to be crossed. We are not supposed to try to look like the opposite sex.

A woman is not something you can put on like a costume. It isn’t a skin. It isn’t a feeling. It isn’t a desire. A woman isn’t something you can turn yourself into.

A woman is created as a woman in the womb and then born as a woman with the anatomical, biological, hormonal and emotional differences that set her apart from men. She can be a tomboy. She can be a businesswoman. She can be a mother. She can succeed in almost any field, but she can never be a man, and a man can never be a woman.
