Memorial Day Weekend Thoughts

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

When Did Memorial Day Begin?

Three years after the end of the Civil War, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization for Union veterans created Decoration Day. This day was set aside for the nation to decorate the graves of the military dead with flowers. Today that holiday is known as Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Weekend Thoughts

Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to have fun with family and friends with picnics and pool parties, but don’t forget the soldiers who died so that we could enjoy life with freedom from government oppression and tyranny.

As the daughter of an Army soldier, I have visited Arlington Cemetery multiple times as well as veterans cemeteries and memorials across the country. I was raised understanding the sacrifices these men make and the greatest sacrifice many of them ultimately make.

It has been so succinctly pointed out:

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American soldier.
One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

So this Memorial Day Weekend, enjoy the pool or the lake or the beach, or a picnic in the park, but take a moment to remember your freedom has been won for you by generations of soldiers, many of whom laid down their lives for it. We can enjoy a three-day-weekend because soldiers died for it.

As President Trump stated in his Memorial Day tribute in 2021: “America’s warriors are the single greatest force for justice, peace, liberty, and security among all the nations ever to exist on earth. God bless our fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, Airmen, and Marines. We honor them today, forever, and always.”

God bless the U.S.A. May our brave soldiers continue to fight government tyranny.
