Grab the popcorn and find a seat! Mark Schultz’s Song Cinema
has just been released on Word Records. Stylistically, it could almost be described as the sequel to his debut self-titled album. There also are new waves of musical creativity, based on Mark’s travels and growth as an artist.
Many of Schultz’s songs are inspired by his continuing
youth work and missions trips. Each song also has a specific message or
story behind it. The lead off single, “I Have Been There” was inspired
by a Church sermon. Schultz said, “There is no place
or situation we can go through where God’s not already
been and overcome”.
Song Cinema also includes “Think Of Me”,
a beautiful ballad duet with Rachel Lampa
Mark wrote this song to describe his sentiments on the last day on
a trip with a group of graduating High School seniors.
Another “Cinematic” masterpiece is,
“Back To You”,a song of thanks and inspiration,
which paints a picture of watching the sunset in
Greece.
Chris Rice makes a guest vocal appearance on the mellow “The Holy One”, which follows a description of Jesus as our true friend, dying on the Cross and coming back to give us life.
“We Are Calling You” is an African style song of praise.
This song features Todd and Nicole Smith from Selah
singing a Congo chant, “Be to ke lombila Yesu (We
are praying to Jesus)”
One of my favorite tracks is a cover version of “Kyrie”, originally recorded by Mr. Mister in the 1980’s. This song was one of the most popular songs at the time. In the lyrics, “Kyrie Eleison” is translated to “Lord, Have Mercy On Us”. The instrumental break features an awesome sonic techno twist with the help of producer, Monroe Jones. “Kyrie” is still a great pop song and is perfect for Mark’s voice and mission.
