Marc Cullen, the worship pastor from Riverview Church in Perth has won a prestigious music industry award for his song “Learning To Say”.
Cullen took out the Song of the Year in the gospel category of the West Australian Music Industry (WAM) awards, one of this country’s premier songwriting contests.
Marc initially wrote the song for Riverview’s live CD “Encounter”, and recorded a studio version of the song for his debut solo album “Mercy Kissed”.
He feels it Is important to present contemporary Christian music alongside the best in mainstream music.
“I think it is great to be able to get into the ‘real world’, and show them that our level of musicianship is up there as well,” Marc says.
“Actually, one of the organisers told me that the entries in the gospel category were among the most professional of the competition,” he says.
