Lisa Whelchel began her acting career at age thirteen as a Mouseketeer for The New Mickey Mouse Club and is best known for her nine-year role on “The Facts of Life.” As “The Facts of Life” experiences a resurgence of popularity due to the nightly airing of the show on Nick-at-Nite, a new two-hour ABC “Facts of Life Reunion” television show is slated for 2002.
Lisa Whelchel shares a little about her faith and her walk with the Lord with us:
I filmed the last episode of ?The Facts of Life? in March of 1988 and then I was married on July 9th, 1988. Ten months later I was pregnant with my first child and proceeded to have three children, three years in a row. I have been a stay-at-home mom ever since and I have loved every minute of it.
I became a Christian when I was ten-years-old and since that time my whole life has been about serving the Lord and sharing His love with others. Many people ask me why my life turned out so happy when many child stars have not always been as fortunate. I attribute it to the fact that when I was ten-years-old, that empty place that is in each of us was filled.
I have never felt the need to look in any other direction for happiness or contentment I understand how easy it could be to look to drugs, sex, alcohol, money or pleasure to fill up the emptiness inside. That’s why I thank God everyday that he saved me at a young age, forgave me of my sins and kept me from walking down paths that only lead to more hurt and pain
Because God loved us so much He sent His only Son, Jesus, to forgive us of our sins. “Sins” is such a religious sounding word. It literally means, “missing the mark,” like on a dartboard. I think it is safe to say that we have all “missed the mark” at some point in our lives. Jesus came to make our aim, and lives, straight so that we no longer need to miss out on what God has planned for us.
The way He did that was by dying on the cross for us. When He did that, He took the punishment that we deserved for messing up our lives. When we accept this gift of love from Him then we no longer need to fear the punishment and we are clean in the Lord’s eyes. We are then free to become all that God created us to be. It’s as simple as that.
