The Lipscomb University Landiss Lecture Series
presents Dr. Hubert McAlexander, speaking on ‘Peter Taylor Redux,’ on Jan.
23 at 7:30 p.m. in room 108 of the Swang Center, 3901 Granny White Pike,
Nashville.
Admission is free. The lecture is open to the public and everyone is
invited to attend.
McAlexander is a professor of
English at the University of Georgia. Dr. McAlexander has previously edited
two works on Taylor, Conversations with Peter Taylor and Critical Essays on
Peter Taylor. He also authored The Prodigal Daughter: A Biography of
Sherwood Bonner.
Some years before Peter Taylor’s death in 1994, the tacit agreement
was made that Hubert McAlexander would be the author’s biographer. In Peter
Taylor: A Writer’s Life, McAlexander presents an accomplished portrait and
achieves for the reader a most remarkable intimacy with this central figure
in the history of the American short story and one of the greatest Southern
writers of his time.
Robert H. Brinkmeyer, Jr., author of Remapping Southern Literature
says: “Peter Taylor: A Writer’s Life is as elegant, restrained and nuanced
as the writing of Taylor himself. McAlexander’s masterful biography will
send readers hastening to the bookshelves to savor Taylor’s works. Is there
any better tribute?”
