The Lipscomb University Homecoming Dinner Theater presents “You Can’t Take It With You” Feb. 3-5 at 6 p.m. nightly in Shamblin Theatre, on the campus, located at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.

This production of “You Can’t Take It With You” features Lipscomb University alumni actors and is directed and produced by Judy Tamble, a 1978 Lipscomb graduate, and Clay Walker, a 1979 Lipscomb alumnus.
This 1937 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, delighted audiences for over two years. The action takes place in the home of Martin Vanderhof, “Just around the corner from Columbia University, but don’t go looking for it.” Vanderhof abandoned a successful career in business to collect snakes and attend university commencement ceremonies. His daughter, Penny Sycamore, writes plays because a typewriter was delivered to their home by mistake. Penny’s husband, Paul, manufactures fireworks in the basement along with Mr. DePinna, the ice deliveryman, who has been there eight years. Essie, Vanderhof’s granddaughter, takes dancing lessons and makes candy that her husband, Ed, delivers to customers with his printed slogans inside each box.
Alice Sycamore, the “sane” member of the family has fallen in love with her boss’ son, Tony Kirby. More than fireworks explode when the high society Kirby family comes for dinner on the wrong night. A Russian countess, the live-in hired help, Donald and Reba, and an IRS agent are just a few more of the characters who add to the hilarious confusion.
