National retailer LifeWay Christian Stores is partnering with publisher Tommy Nelson for the 2002 children?s summer reading program, Reading To Win. The eleven week, nationwide ‘racing themed’ promotion kicks off this Saturday, June 15th in 109 stores and 70 markets. Former Olympic gold medallist, Christian author and mom, Mary Lou Retton is the national spokesperson. LifeWay Christian Store’s Reading to Win aims to combine children’s natural affection for reading with a larger goal of promoting literacy and encouraging a lifelong love of Christian books and materials.
The Reading to Win kick-off event will take place Saturday June 15th at LifeWay Christian Stores. LifeWay, a family friendly retailer, will have chainwide promotion in hopes that over 30,000 books are read during the eleven week program, June 15th-August 31st. The 11:00 am-3:00 pm event on Saturday will jump start the reading program by providing a fun-filled day focused at signing up potential readers (ages 8-12) and listeners (ages 4-7) to participate in Reading To Win. In addition, LifeWay will be providing parents with initial materials and information about the summer reading program.
Reading to Win participants will receive a free gift from Tommy Nelson along with a form for ‘Lap 1’, rules for the program and a preferred reading list. LifeWay Christian Stores will also have a special weekly ‘Pit Stop’ or story time on Saturday mornings that will count as credit for a lap (book). Using the racing theme, prizes will be given when readers have completed reading their first set of 10 books, along with drawings for multiple lap readers, highest number of books read per store and national most read books among others. Tommy Nelson will provide product awards and prizes including gift packages and certificates toward Tommy Nelson catalog purchases.
