Latin Update: February

Fernando Ortega will soon be hitting the road on the Storm Tour. In addition to being the “opening act”, special guests, Nathan and Christy Nockels of Watermark, will also earn their keep as part of FERNANDO’s band. The tour will blow into Lubbock, TX on March 15th and then touch down in Dallas, Wichita, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Atlanta, Cleveland and Baltimore, as well as other neighboring cities. More Fernando below!
One Voice recording artist Ileana Garces is is visiting her alma mater, Miami Christian School, to put on a concert for elementary, middle and high school students as a fundraiser for the school. The high school class that sells the most tickets and has 100% participation wins a day off from school (to ease your mind, the younger kids won¹t be playing hooky).
“This will be a very important day for me,” says Ileana. “I feel indebted to them for contributing to my spiritual, educational and emotional growth.”
Ileana is also preparing to travel to Nashville in April for the 2002 Dove Awards ceremony, as the Spanish version of her debut album Dare to Love is nominated for Spanish-language Album of the Year. Ileana is a very funny and all-around wonderful person, so if you’re going to be in the area for GMA week, contact us about meeting her.
Dove Award-nominated One Voice Records Latin pop recording artist Freddie Colloca, nearing the release of his sophomore English-language project Unconditional, recently signed a management agreement with Nashville-based VanliereWilcox (NewSong, Carolyn Arends) and a booking agreement with Nashville-base Jeff Roberts & Associates (Avalon, Joy Williams, Rebecca St. James). The double signing and hot new album herald a promising year for Colloca, currently touring with NewSong and Newsboys on the popular Winter Jam Tour.
Unconditional will release on April 16 through Provident Music Distribution in the CCM market and through Latin Door Distribution in the Latin market.
2/05/02 The SALVADOR guys returned from their trip to New Zealand late last night. In a quick email update, Pablo mentioned that they had the awesome opportunity to “get their praise on” with 20,000 plus people at the Parachute Festival. They’ll be giving a full report of their trip in next week’s BuzzWORD. Before they left on their adventure, SALVADOR put the finishing touches on their new album, which is due in stores June 4th. We will be passing on more information about this amazing project in upcoming weeks.
