L.A. Symphony Teams with NBA and Yahoo!Sports

On the heels of their #1 debut hit, “Broken Tape Decks,” Squint Entertainment’s hip hop group L.A. Symphony is partnering with the NBA (National Basketball Association) and Yahoo! Sports for the three-month Rhythm ‘n Rims Tour. The Yahoo! Sports NBA Rhythm ‘n Rims tour is the NBA’s premier interactive basketball and music event, bringing the thrill of NBA basketball, the fun of Yahoo! Sports and the latest music to fans all over the United States. L.A. Symphony will perform at 11 of the tour’s 14 stops, including the two cities hosting the NBA Finals in June.
“L.A Symphony is a great addition to our tour,” said Charles Rosenzweig, the NBA’s Director and Group Manager of Entertainment and Player Marketing. “Their recent chart success makes them the type of up and coming group we wanted to showcase.”
The Rhythm ‘n Rims Tour, which begins this weekend (Saturday, April 21) in Miami, features an interactive 18-wheel transformer vehicle, which unfolds into a basketball theme park for all ages, as well as a concert stage and a wide variety of entertaining basketball and musical activities. Participants will have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite NBA and WNBA players and legends, slam dunk at center court, experience the latest in NBA multi-media, compete in non-stop basketball games, win prizes and see L.A. Symphony and other national rising stars perform live.
The tour will primarily travel through NBA team cities, when possible coinciding with NBA home games for maximum impact in the marketplace. The tour stops will be promoted nationally and locally by the NBA, Yahoo Sports! and Squint Entertainment. The launch in Miami will be covered extensively by NBC’s “Inside Stuff” program, as well as other national media.
Two weeks ago L.A. Symphony hit #1 at hip hop radio according to Hits Magazine (March 30 issue). Led by their debut single, “Broken Tape Decks,” the Los Angeles-based collective entered the Top 5 of six leading hip hop airplay charts, including CMJ, Urban Network, Rimsaconn and Insomniac.
“Broken Tape Decks” is the lead single from L.A. Symphony’s Squint Entertainment debut, CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, which will release in the early summer. Signed in 2000 by Squint (home to PLATINUM-selling rock band Sixpence None the Richer), L.A. Symphony is a hip hop collective from Los Angeles featuring eight MCs/producers and one DJ. Their new album, CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, showcases the production talents of hip hop innovators Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School), Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas), Mario C (Beastie Boys) and the Gourmets, as well as the members of L.A. Symphony. CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT also features cameos by Black Eyed Peas and Fatlip (formerly of the Pharcyde).
