Creative Soul recording artist Kristyn Leigh has been chosen to sing during the Pageant of Peace in Washington D.C. on December 23. The Pageant of Peace is an annual event held on the ellipse of the White House where the National Christmas Tree is located. While over 30,000 singers and musicians vie for a performance slot during the Pageant of Peace, less than 100 are selected. And Kristyn was among the elite group that made the cut.
“I am honored and humbled to be chosen,” said Kristyn from her Louisville, Kentucky home. “Christmas is my favorite time of year, and to be able to sing timeless carols in our nation’s capital is a true privilege.”
Kristyn has chosen “O Holy Night,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” and “Silver Bells” as her solos. A good mixture of fun and serious –much like her critically-acclaimed CD, The Heavy And The Holy.
“I’ve always been different,” the 20-year-old college student explains. “I love to sing the old hymns of the church, but at the same time I love to rock out wearing a long pink skirt. I finally realized that is exactly what God wants me to do. He wants my praise, but at the same time He wants me to take his message of love to a hurting world of people. And He wants me to do that being myself.”
The Heavy And The Holy CD has received acclaim from Infuze Magazine, ChristianityToday.com, and other Christian music industry media outlets. She has performed on the Daystar Network, FamilyNet, TCT Network, Cornerstone TV, among others. Her latest single, “Bulletproof Girl,” is being played on CHR radio stations nationwide, and will soon be released as a music video. In addition to working 80-100 concert dates per year, Kristyn is currently studying music at the University of Louisville.
The 2006 Pageant of Peace begins December 9 and ends December 23. The event is presented by the National Parks Service and was first instituted in 1954 by President Dwight Eisenhower. The first National Christmas Tree was introduced by First Lady Grace Coolidge in 1923.
