Actor Kirk Cameron has been added to the list of speakers for the day-long WorshipCityPraise gathering on June 9th, 2001, on the Nashville Capitol Hill north lawn, off of James Robertson Parkway. The event, which will be held from 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm (CST), is a celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Nashville Billy Graham Crusade.
Admission is free. WorshipCityPraise is a monthly citywide gathering created to bring people together of all ages, races, denominations and backgrounds to worship God through music and pray for the city of Nashville and its leaders.
Kirk Cameron is best known for his starring role on the highly successful comedy series, “Growing Pains.” He entertained audiences worldwide as the charming troublemaker, Mike Seaver, a role that earned Cameron several People’s Choice Awards and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor. Most recently, he appeared in the leading role in “Left Behind,” a major motion picture based on the best selling fiction book series. He appeared in several cities including Nashville sharing his testimony as part of the Left Behind Tour.
Cameron learned about the gathering after working on a few events with Jeff Deyo, organizer and worship leader for the monthly events. After learning about the gathering on Capitol Hill, Cameron called Deyo with the desire to participate. “Jeff leads us all in worship with great music and a passionate heart to serve our Savior,” says Cameron. “With our hands lifted high, God takes a hold on our hearts and makes His great love and grace known in a very real way. Jeff is a tool in the hand of God.”
The June event is expected to draw thousands of people to hear the nationally known speakers and musical guests scheduled to appear along with Cameron, including: Bob Bakke, host of National Day of Prayer; Tommy Tenney, author of God Chasers; Louie Giglio, founder of Passion Conferences; Lou Engle, organizer behind “The Call,” a 400,000 person gathering in Washington DC; Melody Green, author and widow of Christian music pioneer Keith Green; Mac Powell, lead singer from the Dove Award-winning group Third Day; Rocketown Records artist and Passion conferences worship leaders Watermark; and internationally renowned worship leader Marco Barrientos.

Over 25,000 people have participated in the monthly WorshipCityPraise gatherings since its origination in March of 1999.
Formerly held under the name SONICPRAISe, the worship gathering has met at various locations to accommodate the growing
number of people attending the monthly event—including last summer’s series at the Bicentennial Mall Amphitheatre near the
Nashville Capitol Building. Since October 2000, the monthly praise and worship gathering has been held in various churches and
denominations throughout the greater Nashville area. The desire is to create a “web of unity” within the congregations as the
monthly gathering moves from church to church.
Those attending the June 9th event are encouraged to bring canned food items to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank; an
offering will also be taken to offset event costs and to invest in community outreach programs through the YMCA of Middle
Tennessee.
To confirm and encourage the event, the Nashville City Council announced on May 1, 2001 the unanimous proclamation for June 9th and every second Saturday in June to be known as Worship City USA Day in the city of Nashville.
