The Kenny & Amanda Smith Band is a highly respected Bluegrass band. The group won the
International Bluegrass Music Association's 'Emerging Artist of the Year' Award in 2003 and
band member Kenny Smith has also twice won the IBMA's 'Guitarist of the Year' award.
The band has been trying to make a Gospel album for ten years but things kept coming up.
The band had booked studio time for March 30, 2006, when Kenny got news that his father
had died in a farming accident.
After much prayer the band decided to go ahead with the recording of the release and to dedicate
it to the memory of Kenny's dad, Carl.
The group also produced the release themselves. It contains Gospel songs that both Kenny & Amanda
sang in church while growing up along with several new songs.
This release blends Bluegrass and Gospel music to create a very rich string sound. The songs are filled
with bass parts that make sure each song's beat stays on track.
Layered on top of that are very well done banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle parts. The lead vocals are
handled mostly by Amanda but Kenny lends his vocals as lead on several of the songs. They share the lead vocal's duties on the last track, "Tell Someone How Precious He Is."
Along with those superb crisp lead vocal parts the songs also feature smooth background harmonies.
The release also features some talented guest artists; Rhonda Vincent, Wayne Winkle, and Daniel Carwile. The result of all this is a really crisp rich sounding CD that really draws you in for what is a very enjoyable
The band says that although this is their first Gospel style release that it won't be the last. We can only
hope that turns out to be a true statement.
