Dove Award-winning Gotee recording artist The Katinas are preparing for the May 8 release of their sophomore
project, Destiny. The album is the follow-up to The Katinas’ critically-acclaimed 1999 self-titled Gotee Records debut. In addition,
Los Katinas’ Destino, a Spanish language recording of Destiny, will be released June 5.
Destiny was produced by Todd Collins (dc Talk, Out of Eden), Bryan Lenox (Michael W. Smith, Sonicflood), Mooki (Stacie
Orrico, Raze), Michael Linney (Newsboys, LaRue) and Aurel M., along with The Katinas.
Featuring the songwriting credits of Linney, Collins, Pete Stewart, Chris Faulk, Amani Phelon and Michael Anthony Taylor, among
others, The Katinas co-wrote nine of the project’s 14 cuts. Selections include “It’s Real,” “You Are,” “Sold Out Believer,” “Who Do
You Love?” and “My Samoa,” a tribute to The Katinas’ homeland.
Destiny’s first Christian AC single, “Thank You,” as well as the album’s first CHR single, “It’s Real,” will go for adds in
mid-March. Various selections will be serviced to Gospel radio in April.
“I truly believe that if there is one thing the listener will receive from this project,” said James Katina, “it will be the realization that
God has a specific design and purpose for each and every one of us.”
The Katinas will perform selections from Destiny this summer at such major Christian festivals as Atlanta Fest; Creation East and
West; Spirit West Coast and Kingdom Bound. In addition, they will be featured at select Promise Keepers events in 2001,
including gatherings in Indianapolis; Oklahoma City; and Kansas City, Kansas.
One of the most sought-after bands in Christian music, The Katinas have performed with such artists as Quincy Jones, Vince Gill,
Kenny Rogers, Michael Bolton and CeCe Winans, among others. They joined Amy Grant’s Christmas tours from 1997-1999 and
were most recently featured on the 2000 “Michael W. Smith Christmastime” Tour.
“There You Are,” from The Katinas’ Gotee Records debut, is nominated for a 2001 Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song at the
upcoming 32nd Annual Dove Awards. The Katinas received Dove Award nominations in 2000 for the singles “You Are God” and
“Taking Me Higher,” as well as a Spanish Language Album nomination for their Spanish language debut, Los Katinas. The
Katinas garnered a 1999 Dove Award for Special Event Album for their participation in the Exodus worship recording.
Destiny will be distributed by Chordant Distribution.
