After releasing his #1 best-selling worship album A Deeper Faith earlier this year, Emmy Award-winning
musician/composer John Tesh is scheduled to release Christmas Worship this fall. The highly anticipated project will be released on
Garden City Music and distributed nationwide through Word/WEA on Oct. 1, 2002.
Receiving an overwhelming response from both mainstream and Christian arenas, Tesh’s debut worship project A Deeper Faith
soared to the top of the charts debuting at #1 on the Praise and Worship chart, #4 on the overall SoundScan chart and #56 on
Billboard’s Top 200. The project continues to top the SoundScan charts since its debut with over 150,000 units scanned in the first
four months of its release.
“I think that now more than ever, people are hungry for the kind of encouragement that worship music can bring, and I think that’s why A
Deeper Faith has done so well, even though it was really a different direction for me, artistically,” Tesh said. “Worship music has always
played an integral part of my growth as a Christian, and I think Christmas is probably the most intense worship time of the year, so this project
really made sense for me.”
Christmas Worship was produced in part by Tom Laune (Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans). Tesh, who typically co-produces his
records, says, “I really wanted to get someone else’s perspective for this project, and Tom really took it by the reins. There was such a great,
prayerful dynamic in the studio. It was wonderful!”
As a native New Yorker, Tesh was deeply affected by the terrorist attacks of last September and dedicates two songs on the album to 9/11.
“The first song is called ‘This Is Your Gift,’ which reminds us that no matter what happens in our lives, whether at Christmas or any time of the
year, the greatest thing we are given from God is a brand new day each morning,” Tesh said. A song that is an anthem for healing became
one of the cornerstone tracks on the record.
“God In The Stairwell,” a spoken-word piece is based on an anonymously written poem circulating on the Internet earlier this year, a message
of hope from God’s perspective about what happened on 9/11. “My wife (actress Connie Sellecca) suggested that I read it during one of my
concerts. So one night, I started reading it from stage while I was playing piano, and it was a very emotional thing. The reaction from the
audience was incredible, so I just kept playing it night after night. Then one day I read it on my radio show, and I’m still getting letters about it!
It’s a great way for me to share openly but tactfully about my faith,” Tesh said.
With a remarkably successful career that now spans over 20 years, Tesh is known worldwide as a leading and respected figure in the
entertainment and broadcasting industries. A six-time Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated musician/composer and broadcast
journalist, Tesh is also the host of a nationally syndicated radio show with eight million listeners, and head of his own highly successful media
company. He is a frequent guest on television shows such as The Tonight Show, Live With Regis & Kelly, The Today Show, Hour of
Power, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Larry King Live. In addition to his musical achievements, Tesh continues to dedicate efforts
to encouraging prayer in the nation by undertaking the role of honorary committee member on the Presidential Prayer Team earlier
this year.
This fall, Tesh will be shooting a Christmas Worship television special in Positano, Italy, as well as embarking on a headline nationwide
Christmas tour.
