John C. Santos

John C. Santos was born in Havana, Cuba and is the son of famous Cuban Hall of Fame band leader/composer Orestes Santos. The Santos family moved to the United States to escape Fidel Castro?s communist regime, choosing the New York City area as their new home for the music. It was in New York that John was introduced to Latin music by playing drums in his father’s band.
John’s family eventually made the trek from far North to deep South when they moved to Miami where his professional music career took off in his father?s nightclub. There John performed with many noteworthy Latin artists while he continued to perfect his craft by studying with famous Cuban drummer, Danny Perez. Soon John was playing drums and percussion for many of the Latin bands in Miami including Latin Grammy winner Celia Cruz.
Today John continues to play percussion, and also sings and writes music for Jazz, Latin and Christian artists. He has worked with many well-known artists including fellow Latin Spotlight artist, Chris Rodriguez.
