Ken Beck and Jim Clark signed their latest Mayberry books at Davis-Kidd Booksellers, June 18, 2002
Jim Clark and Ken Beck are best known for their collaborations on
numerous Mayberry books. Their many Mayberry fans need not fear; Clark and Beck have figured out how to include many Mayberry references in their new book!
“You wouldn’t think we’d be able to work “The Andy Griffith Show” into a cookbook about truckstops, would you?” laughed writer Jim Clark when he showed me the book at Mule Days in Alabama this June. “Goober’s connection (other than being a mechanic) is that George Lindsey had a TV pilot
in which Goober ran a truck stop,” Clark pointed out. “The Barney connection is from his motorcycle patrol of Checkpoint Chickie in search of ‘el truckos’ that were speeding. We also worked in recipes and stories about the Snappy Lunch (a local restaurant from Andy Griffith’s hometown which was mentioned on the series) as sort of a “truck stop” as well as a
Wal-Mart truck driver who impersonates Otis.”
This event is free and open to the public. Davis-Kidd is located at 4007
Hillsboro Road in Nashville.
