Jason Eaton started out singing in church services before earning a degree in Music Education at Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. From there he moved on to the stage as a soloist with the Thurlow Spur productions of Concert Ministries International, playing the lead role in the musical “David, A Man After God’s Own Heart” (written by Cam Floria, head of the Continental Singers). He also had a short stint touring full time with the vocal band Liberty, before deciding to go at it solo.
His EP ‘Nothing Back’ is modern worship set to a pop/rock beat. The 5 songs found on this EP are all about vertical worship.
The EP kicks off with the title cut and lead single, “Nothing Back.” The song starts out melodic and builds to driving beats and passion filled vocals. The song talks about a total commitment, holding nothing back in your faith. The song was written by artist/
songwriter John Waller (Casting Crowns, According To John) with Eaton adding his own arrangement to it.
When asked about that particular song Eaton said, “When I sing about my faith, that song is the one that really captures it,” adding “I’m totally sold out to Christ and am holding nothing back from Him. Some people merely pray to God to be rescued when they’re in trouble, but it’s a personal relationship and a daily conversation. You can’t hold on to the things you want. You have to give them up and give them all over to Him so He can use you.”
The next track, “God Thing,” another John Waller penned song, with a new Eaton arrangement, is an upbeat song about being in a desperate situation, giving it over to the Lord, and being lifted out of that situation by Jesus.
Track-3 “Free,” is another song that starts out more melodic and builds that also includes some nice piano work. The song deals with prayer and worship, the freeing power that comes from the Lord.
Track-4, “I Bowed,” is a new take on the gospel hymn “I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy.” Eaton’s version adds a rock ballad flair to the song with heavier amped guitar work and drum beats, along with light keyboards. Lyrically the song deals with the glorious time ahead when we get to meet loved ones who have passed on before us, while being carried by angels, and ultimately getting to meet Jesus face-to-face.
Putting the bow on this EP is, “Holding Out Hope To You.” The song deals with overcoming, despair, darkness, fear, doubts, and deceptions, finding true salvation that can only come through Jesus.
As with most EP’s their short, and this one is no exception with a running time of just under 20 minutes. But packed into those 20 minutes is a lot of powerful and passionate music from Jason Eaton.
If you enjoy listening to artist like, Michael English, Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Jeremy Camp you will enjoy Jason Eaton’s music.
A tour in support of Nothing Back is currently in the works but Eaton’s priority is his family, including his wife of 13 years Wendy Jo, and their three son’s Grayson (7), Jayden (5) and Brayden (1). Eaton says that his, “family comes first and they come with me as well (to the concerts)…” Visit his website ( http://www.jasoneaton.org ) for any possible upcoming tour dates.
