Jarrod Jones: Youth Speaker and Author of

All Jarrod Jones has to do is stand up and people take notice of him. At 6-foot-7, 240 lbs., most people think Jones looks more like a basketball player than a youth preacher. But that’s not too far off base.
Jones was a starting forward for Brewer State Junior College (now Bevill State), 1990-1992, where he gained many honors such as 1992 runner-up Alabama Junior College Athlete of the year. He went on to become a starting forward for Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was named Academic All-American, as well as being a candidate for the Trans-American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the year (1995).
Today, basketball is no longer Jones’ focus. His passion is to call students to live a life “backwards” to the culture.
Over the past two years, Jones has kept a busy schedule speaking at events around the country. During the fall of 2004, he was the featured speaker on the Shout Fest Tour (which is an outdoor festival with games, extreme sports demonstrations, and top recording artists like Jump 5, Zoe Girl, Tait, Building 429, Petra, Rachel Lampa, and KJ-52).
In addition to his speaking engagements, Jones has written a book and devotional guide, called The Backward Life. Based on the Great Commandment (Mark 12:30-31), this is a journey through the greatness and love of the God you’re made for, as well as a journey of discovering the life and love for God and others that you are meant for.
Jones also offers a Backward Life Weekend — along with illusionist Brock Gill and a worship band. “It’s time for students and all Christians to realize that we are called to a Backward Life,” Jones said. “The Great Commandment is what we’re made for. I would even call it the Great ‘Fulfillment.’ We’re called to be different. And loving God is not just found in our hearts. It’s revealed by the feet that we put to loving God — loving others.”
