Reunion recording artist, Jake, comprised of three
brothers from Alberta, Canada, recently attended the Juno Awards which were
held on March 4th in Toronto, Canada, in honor of their nomination for Best
Gospel Album. The Junos are Canada’s version of the GRAMMYs and honor
musical excellence in their country.
“Being nominated for a Juno is incredible to us,” comments Toby Penner, the
lead vocalist and oldest brother of Jake. “When you are already doing what
you love, being recognized by your peers is humbling and very encouraging at
the same time. Our passion is just writing and playing music hoping that
lives will be touched.”
Jake released their self-titled debut album last year with their first
United States single, “Waiting,” peaking in the Top 5. Simultaneously,
Jake’s single, “Let Me Know,” (released by Zomba Canada) was gaining
momentum across the border in their home country. After only it’s second
week of airplay, the single was reported as second only to Madonna’s “Music”
in increased number of spins.
Jake has also been nominated for 2 Canadian Radio Music Awards, in the
categories of Best New Pop/Adult Group and Best New Top 40 Group. The
awards will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 and recognize excellence and
outstanding achievement for new Canadian artists on radio. The nominees are
selected based upon radio airplay and will be voted on by radio
personalities.
Jake recently performed alongside such artists as Bob Carlisle, Bryan
Duncan, Russ Lee, Joy Williams, SHINEmk and actors Kirk Cameron and Chelsea
Noble as part of the LEFT BEHIND: The Concert tour. Jake is currently in
the studio in Canada recording their sophomore project, which is scheduled
