This was an interview done with Justifide on August 30, 2003 at Rock the Light in Kansas City, MO.
Erin: What plans do you have for a new album?
Jason: Well right now we are just trying to write. We are writing right now as much music as we can and hopefully it’s good.
Sambo: We are trying to make it as good as it can be.
Erin: How did you guys decide to tour with East West on your upcoming fall tour?
Jason: They are just friends of ours. Before either of us were signed we were friends with them. So we were trying to put a tour together and trying to decide who we wanted to tour with. So we were like “Man, East West would be cool.” So we saw them at a show and asked them if they would want to tour together with us. They were like “Yeah man!” So we decided to do it. That’s how it happened, it happened like that!
Erin: What style of music do you guys like that might surprise some people?
Jason: Probably blues and jazz. Probably Latin, I like everything even country.
Sambo: He doesn’t like country!
Jason: Yeah he knows me better than I know myself.
Sambo: Ask him how many country albums he owns.
Jason: I don’t own any but I like it though.
Sambo: You’ve got to own something I think in order to like it.
Jason: That’s ignorant!
Sambo: Well I like Louis Miguel he’s the ballad king of Latin America.
Jason: He’s not the ballad king!
Sambo: That’s what they call him!
Joey: I like him too, he’s incredible.
Erin: What was it like moving from Arizona to Nashville?
Jason: I loved it because it was just something different and I am a guy that likes change. Most people don’t like change, they like things to stay the same but not me. But I like to meet new people and to be in a new place, it’s exciting to not know your way around and just to go through all of that.
Sambo: I thought it was fun I just don’t like Nashville so, but it was fun to move.
Joey: My mom said if I don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all and that’s my comment.
Sambo: You didn’t like moving and all of that stuff?
Joey: Nope.
Sambo: You didn’t like painting your room?
Joey: Nope.
Erin: Do you guys have any crazy fan stories?
Jason: Crazy fan stories? Well like today somebody gave me a bracelet on stage and the rest of the crowd started throwing me their bracelets and we don’t even have enough arm space to put all of the bracelets on.
Joey: Someone wanted to me to sign their tongue before.
Jason: How are you supposed to do that?
Joey: I don’t know, I said I don’t know bro.
Jason: It was a guy?
Joey: Yeah dude, it was crazy man.
Sambo: Umm, I guess I’m all tapped out.
Erin: Who are your favorite artists?
Jason: Let’s skip that question.
Sambo: Why? They asked.
Jason: I like Leonardo DiCaprio.
Sambo: I like Johnny Depp as far as actor artists.
Erin: Umm okay let’s go on then.
Joey: No, we are just playing, we are just playing.
Sambo: I like Santana, Deftones, Foo Fighters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lenny Kravitz, Silverchair, Louis Miguel, Lauren Hill.
Jason: We like all sorts of stuff. I don’t think we have actual favorites. Like a top ten, we don’t really have that.
Erin: Do you have any goals you wish to accomplish over the next year?
Jason: I just think to expand our ministry and to try and take the next step up whatever that is going to be. To just try our ministry a little bit further, to try and write better music.
Sambo: Is it a goal to get a record out by next year?
Jason: Not by next year, no way.
Sambo: Yeah, just to write better songs and maybe go to New York City or something, maybe go to Hawaii.
Jason: That’s a goal?
Sambo: Yeah that’d be awesome.
Erin: Where do you see yourselves in the next five years?
Sambo: I’ve never thought about it. You guys go ahead.
Jason: Yeah I don’t think about it either. I think just to do whatever God asks us to do. I mean still playing music of course.
Sambo: I can see myself on the beach, maybe a beach house.
Jason: Playing Frisbee.
Sambo: Yeah, barbeques with friends. That would be like one month out of the year and then the rest of the time touring and working on music.
Erin: What message would you like to relay to your fans?
Jason: I think it’s just to love one another and lift each other up. If we could just set good examples and be different than other bands. Not necessarily as preaching onstage but living differently to be good examples and show people God’s Word are all of our goals.
Joey: Inspiration.
Erin: Okay, Thanks guys for taking time to do this.
Jason: Hey no problem, Thank You.
