Cecil Blackwood Passes Away

Gospel singer Cecil Blackwood died of cancer yesterday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. He was 66. Cecil Blackwood was part of the legendary Blackwood Brothers, a group formed by his father. The group won nine Grammys and 20 Dove Awards for gospel music. After the Blackwoods moved to Memphis in 1950, Cecil Blackwood led a group, the Songfellows, with whom Elvis Presley briefly performed.
