ChristianTrade Assoc. Intl.’s Marketsquare Asia 2008 Breaks Records
With a 43% increase in attendance across the Hong Kong and Seoul venues, Marketsquare Asia 2008 proved itself a valuable event for suppliers who want to impact the Asian market. Publisher participation grew 63% in Korea alone; nearly 100 from mainland China joined the convention in Hong Kong. Twenty-four American publishers conducted business with their Korean partners in Seoul. New attendance records also were set in Hong Kong.

9/2/8 National Gospel Music Heritage Month
September marks America’s first-ever National Gospel Music Heritage Month, so-designated by House of Representatives (H.Con. Res. 370) and Senate (S. Res. 595) in resolutions passed this summer. The dual legislation proclaims September 2008 as Gospel Music Heritage Month, honoring gospel music for its valuable long-standing contributions to American culture. The initiative was created by Gospel Music Channel, the country’s first and only television network devoted to all forms of Gospel/Christian music, with support from The Recording Academy® and the Gospel Music Association.

Original Soundtrack to the Billy Graham Biopic,Billy: The Early Years, Set for Release on October 7 with Film Opening October 10
Some of music’s most respected artists, including Brooks & Dunn with Third Day’s Mac Powell, Sara Evans, Alan Jackson, Roy Orbison, Brad Paisley, Michael W. Smith, and Josh Turner, join together in tribute to one of the world’s most admired men, the Reverend Billy Graham, for the October 7 release of Billy: The Early Years, the original motion picture soundtrack to the film opening on October 10. A 13-track collection spotlighting artists from the worlds of gospel and contemporary Christian music, country music and beyond, the soundtrack thoroughly captures the mood and spirit of the film’s portrait of Graham’s early life and ministry.
ISC Announces Judges
A total of 55 high-profile music icons and industry executives will judge the 2008 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). This year’s judges include Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), Tom Waits, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Ricky Martin, McCoy Tyner, T-Pain, Loretta Lynn, Chaka Khan, Robert Smith (The Cure), and many more. ISC offers songwriters the opportunity to have their music listened to by some of the most high-profile celebrities and industry executives in the music arena. ISC also offers recognition, exposure, and prizes (more than $150,000 in cash and prizes will be shared among the 62 winners in 20 categories – including an overall Grand Prize of $25,000 (US) cash and $20,000 in prizes). ISC accepts original songs from musicians, artists, bands, and songwriters at every level – from amateur to professional.
