Dove Awards Venue Changed
The Gospel Music Assoc. announced the 2004 Dove Awards venue has been changed to Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. The Apr. 28 event moved to free up the Gaylord Entertainment Center for a possible second-round NHL playoff game by the Nashville Predators, who may make the hockey post-season for the first time this year. Already-purchased tickets will be automatically transferred.
3/12/4 Rev. James Cleveland Petition

The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. (GMWA) will celebrate what would have been the 71st birthday of its Founder and President, Rev. James Cleveland, on Friday, December 5, 2003. To commemorate the anniversary, GMWA is co-ordinating a “National Campaign to Honor the King” with a grass-roots petition drive to collect 25,000 – 50,000 signatures. The signatures will then be presented to the U.S. Postal Service to request that Rev. James Cleveland be honored with a commemorative postage stamp for his many contributions to the genre of Gospel music in America.
3/6/4 Waterfront Records Announces Chillout
Industry Veteran Hugh Robertson’s newly formed record label, Waterfront Records, announces its March 9 release of the Chillout series including Chillout… A Time To Worship and Chillout… The Worship Xperience. This series combines popular hits and worship songs and transforms them into new relaxing arrangements. Designed to help facilitate Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God…” Chillout transforms popular songs made famous by Mercy Me, dc talk, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and others, with such respective hits as “I Can Only Imagine,” “Jesus Freak,” “Long and Winding Road” and “Serve Somebody.” The new arrangements are designed to help the consumer find some quiet and calm to worship and chillout.
Nashville SongWriters Festival
Nashville KOA Kampground is the site for the Annual SongWritersFestival.com’s Nashville SongWriters Festival, June 16-20 2004. Original songwriters will gather for several days of live music performances, Writers Retreat, Workshops, Music Trade Show, Exhibits, Panel Discussions, Networking, Camping, Food and Fun.
The 3rd annual Christian Artist Talent Search
The 3rd annual Christian Artist Talent Search/Television Series (C.A.T.S.) will be held on INSP-The Inspiration Network. This year’s event will bring great talent as well as an exciting show to our viewers. The Butterfly Group will be providing a national recording contract valued at $200,000 for the Grand Prize Winner. Now through April 19th is open sign-up for both solo and group Christian artists.
“The Passion of the Christ” Album

Universal South Records announced today their plans to release Songs Inspired By “The Passion of the Christ” on April 6th, 2004. The CD was compiled by Lian Lunson with input from director Mel Gibson and is intended to serve as a companion piece to the ground-breaking film. The CD includes music from Leon Russell, Leonard Cohen, Dolores O’Riordan (of Cranberries fame), Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Ricky Skaggs, Holly Williams (performing a song by her grandfather, Hank Williams Sr.) and Elvis Presley, among others listed below. The project also contains a song written and performed by Jessi Colter and Shooter Jennings (the late Waylon Jennings’s widow and son) specifically for this film.
