The Essential Marketing Guide for Authors — Third Edition (Coming Soon)
“This isn’t publishing theory from someone who’s never signed a book — it’s a hands-on, fill-in-the-blank workbook built from four decades of real mistakes, real successes, and real dollars spent, so you don’t have to learn the hard way too.”

20-year anniversary of a book with its own story to tell.

This guide started as a booklet I wrote back in 1994, Organization and Promotion of a Benefit Concert on a Shoestring Budget. I expanded those original tips into a full book about promoting books 20 years ago in 2006. After some creative differences with that publisher, I revised it again and released a second edition in September 2008 — richer, sharper, and filled with contributions from industry voices like McGraw-Hill editor Dudley Land and world-record sword swallower and America’s Got Talent star Dan Meyer.
For years, that second edition sat sold out and out of print. It wasn’t until I opened a box of family keepsakes from my late cousin, Paul M. Darden, that I discovered his carefully preserved copy—the sole remaining copy of the edition in my hands. That rediscovery laid the foundation for this new Third Edition, fully updated for today’s publishing landscape with modern tools, current resources, and the proven, budget-conscious guidance that has supported authors for over three decades.
Whether you’re releasing your first book or your fifth, this guide is built to help you promote it without breaking the bank.
Follow along on Facebook for the upcoming first look at the new cover — and to be among the first to know when the book is available.
