ON AUGUST 30, A&E HOME VIDEO PROUDLY RELEASES THE
SECOND INSPIRATIONAL INSTALLMENT OF MICHAEL LANDON’S Highway to Heaven
It was a top-rated television favorite in the 80s’, and, thanks to a large and loyal fan base, it has once again taken wing on DVD in 2005. On August 30, join A&E Home Video as they release the next installment of Michael Landon’s beloved family drama with Highway to Heaven: Season Two. Featuring all 24 second season episodes in their remastered entirety, the highly collectible 6-DVD set will be available to add to every home entertainment library for $59.95srp.
In Highway to Heaven, the iconic Landon (who also created the series, produced, wrote and directed many episodes) plays “Jonathan Smith,” an angel blessed with heavenly powers sent to earth to restore faith and grace in humanity, one family at a time. Accompanied by his trusty sidekick, brusque cop “Mark Gordon” (Victor French, Little House on the Prairie), the duo travels from town to town, disguised as teachers, policemen, sportswriters – whatever the “Boss” assigns – and uses their more human gifts to reunite broken families, comfort the sick, and help the lost find their way back to Highway to Heaven.
The second season of the groundbreaking series addresses subjects to which contemporary audiences can easily relate, such as low self-esteem, grieving the loss of a child, cancer, immigration and teenage pregnancy. Featuring high profile guest stars such as Lorne Greene (Bonanza, Battlestar Galactica), Ed Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show), Eli Wallach (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), and Shannen Doherty (Charmed, Beverly Hills 90210), Highway to Heaven: Season Two offers home viewers one of television’s quintessential family-favorite dramas, championing good values, strength of character and kindness.
Adding to the ethereal viewing experience, the DVD set also offers commentary from Landon’s wife, Cindy, and producer Kent McCray on the heartfelt episode, “The Torch,” about a Holocaust survivor whose life is ultimately saved by a Neo Nazi.
A top-rated hit in the 1980s, Highway to Heaven paved the way for current spiritual favorites, such as 7th Heaven, Touched by an Angel and Joan of Arcadia. After enjoying a five-season run on NBC, totaling 111 hour-long episodes from 1984-1989, the program garnered a second generation of fans throughout its runs in syndication. Today, Highway to Heaven can be seen on TV Land, where it airs weeknights at 8pm ET, and Highway to Heaven: Season Two is also available as a 6-DVD set, which is being repriced on August 30 to $59.95srp.
