High School Students Invited to Take the Bluefield Challenge

Are you a high school student looking for a challenge? Interested in a
college that will help you grow intellectually, physically and spiritually?
Want to achieve your personal best or find your calling in life? If so, Bluefield College invites you to attend its Fall Open
House/Challenge Day, Saturday, November 12, beginning with registration at
10 a.m., followed by a full day of college experiences and activities.
Bluefield College is a private, Christ-centered liberal arts college
located in the beautiful mountains of southwestern Virginia. Fully
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the college
offers challenging and personalized instruction leading to baccalaureate
degrees in 18 majors of study.
Touted for its classroom technology, affordability and personalized
instruction, Bluefield College is ranked among the Top 50 comprehensive
undergraduate colleges in the South by U.S. News and World Report and
recognized as the most affordable private college in Virginia by the Lumina
Foundation for Education. These distinctions, BC leaders say, help support
the argument that the college is no longer just “a common choice,” but
instead “an aspirational choice” for students.
“We think prospective students should realize that they will accomplish
much more if they attend this unusual college that has the heart and
commitment to challenge and equip them to find and fulfill their life
calling,” said BC President Dan MacMillan. “We believe that Bluefield
College is the only college in Virginia that has the faith, commitment, size
and approach to offer such a personalized and whole education.”
College officials will share the uniqueness of the institution with
prospective students during the November 12 Open House/Challenge Day, which
begins with registration at 10 a.m. in Shott Hall, followed by an
Organizations Fair designed to introduce prospective students to the variety
of student organizations and activities available on campus.
The Open House/Challenge Day schedule will also include a Bluefield
Family Assembly, lunch and campus tours, which will feature a look at BC’s
video conferencing facility that connects the school to academic
environments around the world and its “SMART” classrooms that have high-tech
presentation devices, modern projection equipment, SMART Boards, computers,
DVD and VHS players, and surround-sound audio systems.
“This is a chance for prospective students to find out exactly what the
Bluefield Challenge is all about,” said George Campbell, director of
traditional admissions for BC. “They will get a personal tour of the campus
and be introduced to friendly, helpful professors. They can talk with
coaches or music and drama directors. They will even get to meet the college
president.”
The afternoon will also feature entertainment from BC’s select student
music ensemble Variations, personal sessions with admissions and financial
aid counselors, and an Outcome Panel, featuring testimonies from alumni of
Bluefield College.
“We want students to see Bluefield College as a challenge,” Dr.
MacMillan added about the purpose of BC’s Challenge Day, “a challenge to
find out what they were created for or a challenge to achieve their personal
best.”
