With eight #1 singles to his credit, Dove Award-nominated singer/songwriter Greg Long is set to return to the solo spotlight with the release of his fifth recording and Christian Records debut, Born Again, on February 17. Produced by Don Koch, Mooki Taylor, George King and Long, Born Again features 10 selections, nine of which were co-written by Long.
Highlights of the project include the title cut, which was recently serviced to Christian AC formats as the album¹s first single, as well as “Be Near,” featuring a special appearance by 4HIM¹s Andy Chrisman; “Fifteen;” “Savior of the World” and “Sing About Jesus,” among others. Born Again also features a new arrangement of the classic “Rise Again,” which was penned by Christian music pioneer Dallas Holm in 1977. The song holds special meaning for Long, as he recommitted his heart to Christ as a teenager during a Dallas Holm concert.
“Born Again is the most diverse album I have recorded,” said Long. “Christian Records allowed me to go places musically that I have wanted to explore for a long time, and co-writing nine songs on the project makes it the most personal recording I¹ve done. It¹s also very meaningful to me that we were able to include the home movies of my baptism in the Gulf of Mexico by my father on the music video of ŒBorn Again.¹ I hope this collection of songs brings glory to God and is a vehicle through which His will is done in my life.”
“We are excited to partner with Greg Long for his first release on Christian Records,” said Mike Rinaldi, founder/managing partner, Butterfly Group. “I loved these songs the first time I heard them in the studio, but Born Again is really the kind of record that just keeps getting better and better the more you listen to it. Powerful songs like the title-cut and ŒFifteen¹ are so convicting to me personally, and I believe people will really get to know the heart of Greg Long through Born Again.”
In addition to his solo work, Long is also the newest member of gold-selling Sparrow recording artist Avalon. The group is preparing for their February 24 studio release, The Creed, as well as a spring tour.
Since the release of his solo debut, Cross My Heart, in 1994, Long¹s impact at Christian radio includes such #1 hits as “Jesus Saves,” “Mercy Said No” and “Sufficiency of Grace,” as well as five additional #1 songs and six Top 10 singles. Recipient of a 1999 ASCAP Christian Music Award for Song of the Year as a co-writer of “Mercy Said No,” Long has toured with such artists as Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez and 4HIM, among others. Married to fellow Avalon member Janna Long, the couple is expecting their first child this spring.
Born Again will be distributed to the CBA market by Butterfly International Distribution and to mainstream retail outlets via the Navarre Corporation.
