GREED
Tucker told me this joke, and I think it perfectly illustrates where our true
treasures are: in heaven.
A billionaire was lying on his deathbed. “Lord,” he called out, “may I please
bring a million dollars with me to heaven?”
The Lord answered, “No.”
The man continued to argue with God. “May I at least bring a briefcase full
of my wealth?” he petitioned.
Finally, the Lord consented.
Soon after, the man died. As he requested, he was buried with his briefcase.
But when the billionaire arrived at the pearly gates, he was stopped.
“I’m sorry, sir,” the gatekeeper said, “but you can’t bring that into heaven.”
The gentleman was quick to explain. “You don’t understand! I got permission
from the Lord to bring this with me.”
“Well, what do you have in there?” asked the gatekeeper, intrigued.
The man unlatched his briefcase and proudly displayed 50 gold bars.
The gatekeeper scratched his brow. “You brought pavement?”
Luke 12:15–“Then he [Jesus] said, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all
kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.'”
This week pray for God to protect you and your family from the pitfalls of greed.
It is an easy thing to get caught up in in our materialistic society.
