The Gospel Music Association (GMA) and the Christian Music Trade Association (CMTA) have made several changes in staffing responsibilities, including a merger of the marketing departments of the two organizations, announced John W. Styll, president of the GMA and CMTA.

The restructure results in a merger of the staffs and marketing responsibilities of the GMA and CMTA to create a unified marketing department under the leadership of Gabriel Aviles. Aviles, who joined the organization in 2002, adds a new role to his current title of CMTA Director, becoming CMTA Director and GMA Director of Marketing. Amy James, who has been CMTA Assistant since November 2005, also receives a title change in the department restructure to become CMTA and GMA Marketing Assistant.
“There are great synergy and efficiencies to be gained by merging the marketing teams for both GMA and CMTA. I believe that the creative energy and enthusiasm of this newly combined team will boost our promotional efforts for both organizations. I am thankful that Gabriel has agreed to add GMA marketing to his job description in addition to his operational responsibilities for CMTA,” said Styll.
This new GMA/CMTA marketing department will be responsible for promoting all GMA events such as the GMA Music Awards, GMA Music in the Rockies and GMA Academy and others. The GMA/CMTA marketing department also produces GMA communications, including GMAil, the weekly membership e-newsletter. For CMTA, this team continues to operate Christian Nielsen SoundScan and to produce industry marketing materials such as the Gospel Music Industry Overview and the “Gospel: Music That Connects” marketing DVD.
Jennifer Womble, marketing manager; Mark Ross, editor of communications and Ben Cooper, CMTA systems manager, round out the staff of the restructured GMA/CMTA department.
In addition to the marketing restructure, Styll also announced that Erin Estepp has been named events assistant for GMA. Estepp, an East Tennessee native, is a new graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, earning a degree in Public Relations and Oral Communications. Prior to joining the staff of GMA, Estepp held a volunteer internship position with GMA, serving as volunteer coordinator for this year’s GMA Music Week.
Founded in 1964, the 4,000-member Gospel Music Association is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating the gospel through music. The GMA represents all styles of gospel music including contemporary pop, rock, urban gospel, praise & worship, Southern gospel, country and children’s gospel music. The GMA produces the GMA Music Awards, which recognizes achievement in all genres of gospel music and are voted on by members of the GMA.
