GOP Can’t Take Evangelicals for Granted

Following Saturday’s GOP straw poll, the Reverend Rob Schenck, president of the National Clergy Council and board member of the Evangelical Church Alliance, released this statement:
“As GOP would-be candidates for the ’08 presidential race begin lining up, they can’t take Evangelicals for granted. Evangelicals are concerned about integrity on three core convictions: the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage and the family and the public acknowledgement of God. Bill Frist and Mitt Romney already have big problems with the first of these three convictions. Evangelicals will also be looking for action plans, not platitudes. Too much is at stake to reduce these principles to slogans. Evangelicals across the board will look for long track records and credible action plans before they cast a vote for a candidate.”
The Reverend Rob Schenck is an ordained Evangelical minister, president of the National Clergy Council, past president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council and a board member of the Evangelical Church Alliance, America’s oldest fellowship of evangelical ministers, churches and mission societies.
