GMA Week Journal Tuesday, April 4

Seminars, exhibits, luncheons, interviews, showcases, and of course, concerts are the stuff Gospel Music Week is made of and Tuesday was no exception. GMA Week was still in high gear, but there were signs of it winding down. Plenty of interesting people were still going from one event to the next, and I ran into Bryan Duncan looking for his singers outside the hotel. He graciously paused so I could shoot him with the Bat Building in the background. I hope he found his singers!

While I caught my breath in a comfy chair in the back corner of the Renaissance lobby, I struck up a conversation with a young man from Indianapolis who turned out to be in the John David Webster band. I was able to snap a pic of the modern rockers before they headed off to jam.

I soon headed off myself, to experience some of the music from Magdalene, Michelle Pillar and Larry Carlton performed one of the moving songs from the musical.

Both John Styll and Brian Mason were on hand to check out Magdelene.

The exhibit area was still in full swing most of the day, and I saw Pivitplex being interviewed by a TV station. In the early afternoon, some of the booths began to quietly tear down, and most of the seminars and tracks were concluded today with final wrap-ups scheduled for tomorrow.

The big thing about Tuesday, however, is the concerts as there are concert events, both big and small for every possible style of Christian music scheduled all over Nashville. It is no small task to pick the ones to attend. My schedule of choice had me trying to catch some of the BEC/Tooth and Nail concert at the Renaissance ballroom at 7:00 PM before heading over to the Wildhorse at 7:30 for the Erace All Star Night, and then running back up Commerce Street to McKendree Methodist to catch the Go to Group’s Dessert Showcase at 9:30, before darting over to NV to see Viktor. Needless to say, I overbooked and missed a couple of events I really wanted to catch as some events started late and others were just long!

I did get to see Rachel Lampa and TobyMac at the Erace All-Star concert along with Justin Spence, Bill Miller, Tommy Sims, Ayiesha Woods and others before I had to dart out to catch the next event on my tight schedule.

At 9:30 PM, I headed back up the Commerce Street hill to McKendree Methodist Church where a warm and cozy candlelit ambience greeted me. The Ric Blair Band was already playing some Celtic tunes when I arrived, so I grabbed some yummy deserts and sat down for their set.
I ran out of film and steam before the night was over, and I headed home to post photos for you! Stay tuned for our Dove Awards coverage and photo gallery tomorrow night!
