The GMA Week fun officially started today at the Nashville Convention Center and Renaissance Hotel. Curb Records hosted their annual Sunday Sundae and the Annual McCain & Co. Guitar Pull ended just in time to attend the GMA Worship Service at the Ryman.
Sporadic downpours and bad weather prevented me from arriving in time for the early events, but I was able to make it to the Ryman. As I walked down Commerce Street, I ran into Louie and Penny Weaver and the guys from the new band, Viktor. Penny and I exchanged quick anecdotes, and then Louie suggested I join the band for lunch tomorrow for an interview. Needless to say, I was happy to oblige and will be glad to share all the details with CA readers tomorrow!
After leaving one Louie, I headed into the Ryman for worship with another Louie – Louie Giglio. Giglio talked about the evolution of worship from singing early modern praise songs in the 70’s, to modern worship, to post-modern worship, to emerging worship. He said emerging worship went with the emerging church, but he noted that according to his calculations, the church had been emerging for 2,000 years. His point – that it doesn’t matter how you worship as long as you are worshipping Jesus, provided a great platform for what GMA Week is all about: different flavors, one Savior.

After Giglio was through speaking, the Dave Crowder Band rocked the Ryman.
I grabbed a quick bite at the Bridge restaurant before heading down to the ballroom to enjoy the Songwriters’ Showcase hosted by Matthew West with Mark Hall, Third Day, BarlowGirl, Joy Williams, Bebo Norman, Gerald Crabb and more.
Mark Hall performed “Voice of Truth” and “Lifesong.”
BarlowGirl rocked out with “Let Go.”
Bebo Norman (“We love you, Bebo!”) and his jacket were a hit performing “Nothing Without You.”
Gerald Crabb got a helping hand from Jadon Lavik
More photos and details coming soon!
What’s GMA Week in Nashville without tornado warnings? As I headed home tonight after the showcases, the sky was filled with lightening and the radio issued dire warnings that made me eager to arrive home. I guess that is also what GMA Week is all about, heeding the warnings, following the signs, and listening to the encouragement that helps us find our way safely home.
