I started off GMA Wednesday with two great interviews. First I met Inpop Records new band, Superchic(k) at 7:30 am. The girls and guys of the band were standing around in a big huddle when I arrived. We then headed into the Inpop bus to get started. Everyone was really friendly to me. Ben, spoke on looking beyond our circumstances. “When we try to follow Christ in spite of our circumstances, that’s when we glorify Christ the most”. (more in this interview to come)
Later, I spoke with Phil Joel outside the Inpop bus. Phil elaborated on balancing the Newsboys with his own “Strangely Normal” tour. Phil also has a beautiful baby girl, Phynley. “I’m learning as we go. One thing I’m learning is that just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” (more on this interview to come)
In the early afternoon I went to a press conference with Gotee artist The Katinas, who are releasing Destiny this summer. I first met Sam and Joe at Kroger a few months ago. These guys have great hearts and a sincere desire to minister.
I also went to a press conference for the upcoming movie, Extreme Days, which features the number one single from Toby Mac. You will be hearing much much more on this film in the weeks and months to come. It will be widely promoted in national theaters for a fall release.
I also saw some great performances at the Sparrow Evening Concert at The Ryman auditorium. Sparrow are celebrating their 25 year anniversary. This was truly an all star night of music, spanning Sparrow’s 25 year history! There was a great tribute to Keith Green with Avalon singing, “Oh Lord, Your’re Beautiful” with Keith’s face and voice in the background. Among the other highlights were Avalon’s performance of “Testify to Love” and Ce Ce Winans performing “Alabaster Box”(WHICH BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN!!). Later, Charlie Peacock came out to a standing ovation. He introduced and performed with the young band Switchfoot on “Learning To Breathe”
My favorite part of the night was the Newsboys performing “Joy” which was simply awesome! Steven Curtis Chapman closed the night with an energetic version of “Dive”. Most of the artists came out on to join Steven as everyone worshiped with “I could sing of your love forever”.
