sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records lead-worshiper Chris Tomlin was named the 2007 Gospel Music Association (GMA) Artist and Male Vocalist of the Year for the second consecutive year last night during the 38th Annual GMA Dove Awards held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. Receiving nine nominations to lead the field of artist nominees for the second consecutive year, Tomlin became the evenings most honored recipient with six awards: Pop/Contemporary Album and Praise & Worship Album of the Year for his current acclaimed album See The Morning, Worship Song of the Year for �Holy is The Lord� from his RIAA Certified Gold album, Arriving, and Special Events Album of the Year for Passion: Everything Glorious.
Curb recording artist Natalie Grant took home the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year at last night�s 38th Annual GMA Dove Awards in Nashville, marking the second consecutive year she has received the prestigious honor. She also served as co-host of last night�s ceremony, along with Brian Littrell and Donnie McClurkin. The 38th Annual Dove Awards were held at the Grand Ole Opry House and will begin airing in national television syndication in May.
Multi-platinum artist Casting Crowns was once again named Group of the Year for the third consecutive year. Going into the night as one of the top nominees, Casting Crowns also took home the Dove for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song for �Praise You in This Storm,� from its GRAMMY-winning Lifesong project. This track, one of the biggest songs in Christian radio this past year, won ASCAP�s prestigious Song of the Year honor earlier in the week.
Breakout rock band Red added another highlight to its young existence last night with its first-ever Dove Award for its No. 1 radio single, �Breathe Into Me�, in the category Rock Recorded Song at the 38th Annual GMA (Gospel Music Association) Dove Awards. Anthony Armstrong, guitarist in Red, shares, �Our first Dove Award means more to us than people may assume. We grew up dreaming of this moment, and to experience it first-hand is beyond words right now. Thank you to everyone who is a part of �Red Nation�, you know who you are.�

GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning rock band Third Day was recognized as the first artist in Dove Award history to receive Christmas Album of the Year honors for their highly-successful Christmas Offerings project. Going into the night as one of the select group of nominees in the prestigious Artist of the Year category, this award marks the 25th career Dove Award for Third Day. The Atlanta-based rock band was also recognized for their smash hit �Cry Out to Jesus,� written by lead singer Mac Powell, with a nomination in the Song of the Year category. Powell was also recognized with a nomination for Songwriter of the Year.
Slanted Records recording artists DecembeRadio took home their first GMA Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year at yesterday�s 38th Annual Dove Awards ceremony. The rock band, known for their slammin� live stage shows and classic rock influences, was nominated in four categories following their debut self-titled release–Song of the Year (�Drifter�), New Artist of the Year, Rock Recorded Song of the Year (�Dangerous�) and Rock Album. �It�s amazing how God has blessed us this year,� stated group member Eric Miker. �We are grateful to everyone in the industry–radio, retail, promoters, media–and to our fans for their support and for honoring us with this award.”
Acclaimed band Jars of Clay received two statues, one in the Rock/Contemporary Album category for its Good Monsters project, and the other in the Short Form Music Video of the Year category for the video to its hit song, �Work.� The band also was honored by being asked to present Songwriter and Producer of the Year awards. To date, Jars has collected nine Dove Awards.
The Dove Awards were handed out at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The awards show will be televised in national syndication in May.
